About the Event

Explore the fascinating world of cyanotype in our Cyanotype Class, where participants will learn the fundamentals of this historic photographic printing process.  Cyanotype artwork is created by treating a surface, typically paper or fabric, with a photosensitive solution of ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. When the treated surface is exposed to ultraviolet light, such as sunlight, and then washed in water, a cyan-blue image emerges. This process can capture intricate details and produce stunning, ethereal images.

This hands-on class will guide you through the steps to create stunning blue and white prints using sunlight and photosensitive chemicals. The class includes:

· Introduction to Cyanotype: Overview of the history and science behind the cyanotype process.

· Materials and Tools: Detailed explanation of the chemicals, papers, and other materials used in cyanotype printing.

· Preparation and Safety: Instructions on how to safely handle and prepare the photosensitive solution.

· Design and Composition: Techniques for creating interesting and visually appealing designs using botanical objects, negatives, or digital images.

· Exposure and Development: Step-by-step guidance on exposing your designs to sunlight and developing the prints.

· Creative Techniques: Tips for experimenting with different objects, exposure times, and methods to achieve unique effects.

This class is perfect for artists, photographers, and anyone interested in exploring a unique and creative printing process. By the end of the session, participants will have created their own beautiful cyanotype prints and gained the knowledge to continue experimenting with this versatile medium.
